Kendo is more than just a sport, it's a concentration of the Japanese spirit, embodying discipline, focus, and self improvement. Why not deepen your understanding of Japanese history and spirituality through this experience in Ikaruga, a town with a 1,400 year history.
You'll witness a powerful demonstration by a swordsman and learn about the important etiquette and equipment used in kendo. You'll also get to try swinging a shinai bamboo sword and be taught some techniques, giving you a chance to experience the unique charm of Japanese kendo. Additionally, you can try on the protective gear for a memorable photo opportunity.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
A staff member with a sign that says "[Kendo Experience]" will be waiting for you. When you exit the ticket gate on the 2nd floor of Horyuji Station, take the escalator or elevator on the north side of the building to the outside of the 1st floor.
What to expect
Explanation of Etiquette: Learn and practice the fundamental etiquette of kendo.
Basic Movement Practice: Get a feel for the basics of kendo, including how to hold the shinai, perform practice swings, and use footwork.
Commemorative Photo: Take a photo while wearing the equipment if desired.
