This tour is held only on Fridays and Saturdays.
Your guide is a local resident who has lived in the area for 20 years and loves history and fun. Let’s explore the hidden history preserved in the cityscape together.
Minor changes including starting time are welcome! Please let your guide know your requests in advance.
In the down town area, you can try some street food or enjoy a couple of dishes and drinks at an izakaya.
In the Naramachi area, join a table tea ceremony in a serene setting.
Once you’ve found your inner peace by the tea ceremony, take a tour inside a traditional Japanese house.
Then, enjoy a sake tasting at one of the area’s historic breweries.
Finally, (unless you're completely drunk), let’s take some fun photos while wearing traditional Japanese costumes.
The meeting place is in front of the statue in the cover photo of this tour. It is located at the east ticket gate of Kintetsu Nara Station and up the stairs at Exit 2.

Take a walk while discovering the history in a corner of the shopping district lined with modern stores and restaurants.
This area has many stores where locals come to buy food. They may be full of unusual things for you... Let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to eat! We also have a takoyaki shop that your guide recommends as the best in Nara. If you’d prefer a sit-down izakaya experience rather than street food, please let me know in advance. There’s a place where you can sample sake from all over Japan.
Sit at a table, take a break, and enjoy the tea ceremony performed by the café owner.
In this town you will see old Japanese buildings and time-honored customs. Take pictures in the Japanese houses to make your trip memorable. After a tiring day of walking, let your taste buds delight your palate. Choose between a sake or matcha tasting, whichever you prefer. After taking a break, move to a different location and take pictures in unique costumes!
