Itinerary

Duration: 4 hours (approximately)
  • Temple of Philae (Pass by)

Your expert tour guide will pick you up from Aswan (Hotel, Nile Cruise, Train station Or Airport) and accompany you in a guided tour to visit the unfinished obelisk in Aswan northern granite quarry. It was ordered by Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh (1508–1458 BC). It is nearly one third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever erected. If finished it would have measured around 42 m (approximately 137 feet) and would have weighed nearly 1,200 tons. Proceed to visit the high dam, a rock fill dam built across the Nile in Aswan, between 1960 and 1970 with the aim to regulate the Nile River flooding, to store the water for agriculture and to generate hydro electric power. Enjoy a short motor boat ride to Philae Temple Island, the most ancient structure in the Island was the temple of the Goddess Isis, ordered by the native Pharaoh Nectanebo I (380-362 BC), Nectanebo was a great builder and restore. For the other Temples, Chapels and ruins date from the Ptolemaic times, more especially with the reigns of Ptolemy Philadelphus, Ptolemy Epiphanes, and Ptolemy Philometor (282-145 BC), with many traces of Roman work most notable in the Kiosk of Emperor Trajan (98-117ad), enjoy free time at leisure. You will then be transferred back to your accommodation in Aswan.
