Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup in Lima. We can collect you from your hotel, Airbnb, or directly from Lima International Airport, whichever is most convenient for you. From there, you'll travel south along the Pan-American Highway in the comfort of a private vehicle toward the Nazca region. The journey to the first viewpoint, Llipata Viewpoint, takes approximately 5 to 6 hours. Along the way, we'll make scheduled stops so you can use the restrooms, stretch your legs, or purchase snacks and drinks before continuing the adventure.
Our first stop takes you to the fascinating Palpa Lines, a hidden archaeological treasure that many travelers never get the chance to discover. In this area, we'll visit up to three different viewpoints, each offering unique panoramic views of these ancient geoglyphs spread across the surrounding hills and desert. Unlike the Nazca Lines, many of the Palpa geoglyphs can be appreciated from the ground thanks to their location on the hillsides. From these viewpoints, you'll admire impressive figures and geometric designs while your guide explains their history, cultural significance, and the theories surrounding their creation more than 2,000 years ago. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience one of Peru's best-kept secrets and capture spectacular photographs before continuing toward the world-famous Nazca Lines.
After exploring the Palpa Lines, we'll continue along the Pan-American Highway for approximately 15 minutes until we reach the famous Nazca Observation Tower, a platform rising more than 20 meters (65 feet) above the desert. From the top, you'll enjoy a spectacular view of three of the most iconic Nazca geoglyphs: The Hands, The Tree, and The Lizard. Your guide will explain the fascinating story behind these figures, including how the construction of the Pan-American Highway unknowingly divided the Lizard geoglyph into two sections long before the Nazca Lines were recognized as one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures. This stop offers one of the closest and most impressive ground-level views of the Nazca Lines.
Our final stop is La Colina Viewpoint, a truly unique location and the only place where visitors are officially permitted to stand on the mysterious Nazca Pampa, home to the world-famous geoglyphs. From this privileged viewpoint, you'll admire the impressive Feline geoglyph along with an extensive network of perfectly straight lines stretching across the desert. Some researchers believe these ancient alignments point toward important astronomical events, including the solstices, adding even more mystery to this extraordinary landscape. Many visitors describe La Colina as a place with a remarkable atmosphere and a special energy. Whether you come for the history, the archaeology, or simply the breathtaking scenery, standing in the heart of the Nazca Pampa is an unforgettable experience that very few travelers have the opportunity to enjoy.
From Ica, we will continue for approximately 2 more hours in a private vehicle until we reach the first viewpoints in Palpa. Here, we will visit three different viewpoints and discover several fascinating geoglyphs from the Palpa period, considered part of the Paracas culture. This is the perfect introduction to the ancient mysteries of the Peruvian desert before continuing toward the famous Nazca Lines.
