Visit the remarkable Uros Floating Islands on Lake Titicaca and discover the traditions of one of the region’s most distinctive communities. During the guided visit, local residents will explain how the islands are created and maintained using multiple layers of totora reeds. You will also learn how this natural material is used to build homes, traditional boats, and handicrafts. Hear about the community’s history, customs, daily activities, and close relationship with Lake Titicaca. After the cultural presentation, enjoy time to walk around the islands, take photographs, interact with local families, and browse locally made crafts. A ride on a traditional totora-reed may also be available. This optional activity is not included in the tour price and must be paid for directly to the local community.
After returning from the Uros Islands, travel by private vehicle from Puno’s main pier to Tulipans Restaurant. Enjoy an à la carte lunch featuring contemporary Peruvian cuisine prepared with carefully selected local ingredients. Each traveler may choose one main course from the special menu included in the tour. Relax and enjoy your meal in the restaurant’s elegant and welcoming atmosphere before beginning the afternoon excursion.
Explore Sillustani, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Peruvian Altiplano. Located on a peninsula overlooking Lake Umayo, the complex is famous for its imposing chullpas—tower-shaped funerary monuments constructed by the Kolla civilization and later refined by the Incas. Follow your guide through the site while learning about ancient Andean beliefs concerning death and the afterlife. Discover the purpose of the funerary towers, the important people buried within them, and the sophisticated stone-cutting and construction techniques used more than 700 years ago. The visit involves a gentle uphill walk to the principal archaeological areas and viewpoints. From the higher sections of the complex, enjoy sweeping views of Lake Umayo and the surrounding Altiplano landscape.
