Iceland is the only place on earth where it is possible to combine these fantastic tours; a hike to a live volcanic eruption and an evening aurora hunting tour.
Your day starts in the late morning by joining our tour to eruption site at Meradalir. This involves a 1.5-2 hour hike each way over uneven terrain and would be considered of moderate difficulty to the average, reasonably fit person.
Enjoy the spectacle as thousands of cubic meters of piping hot magma erupts from the volcanoes core.
After you time at the volcano, you will be dropped back to the city where you will have time for dinner and to freshen up before your evening northern lights hunting tour. Our guides, having consulted the aurora forecast of the Icelandic Met Office, will take you to the area most likely to be free of cloud cover and hope to see the aurora´s shimmering light show. We will take you to 2 or 3 locations hoping for the best display.
This Northern Lights tour is usually around 4 hours in duration.
Pickup can take upto 30 minutes. Pickup for the second part of the day, the Northern Lights tour begins at 21.30 and can take 30 minutes. Same pickup location as the morning tour.
Enjoy the spectacular views of Kleifarvatn Lake.
Hike to the volcano eruption site through the mossy-covered lava fields and mountains with our expert tour guide. (Can range from around 2-4 hour hike and routes change due to the volcano activity)
Drive around the Reykjanes Peninsula viewing unique surroundings.
See the colorful geothermal area at Seltún Hot Springs. (this is skipped on longer hikes)
Visit the Northern Lights center in Reykjavik and learn about Aurora phenomena. The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere, are actually the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere.
