This special Swedish history tour takes you to some of the coolest places near Stockholm. You will get a large dose of medieval, viking and ancient times. The tour includes areas from the Bronze Age to today and goes from Stockholm towards the Enköping area. The focus will be on the Viking Age and the turbulent Middle Ages. The first stop is Sweden's oldest and perhaps most exciting city, Sigtuna. Walk along the Viking and early medieval street network and hear the Viking city grow up around you. Hear about trade trips, kings, coin making. See the majesty of the church ruins rise above you and much more.
Ingvar rune stone and Vendel-era large mound The Ingvar stones are famous in the Swedish Viking Age and runology as they mention a large campaign to the east to open up the Russian trade rivers. It failed but is preserved as a fairy tale recorded at the Svea King's court in the 13th century by an Icelandic visitor. The Vendel-era great mound we pass is really powerful, which speaks of a rich central square that was here a few hundred years before the Viking Age. We also pass Håtuna royal estate, the site of the bloody Håtuna game during the Middle Ages.
Bishop-Arnö. Biskops-Arnö is beautifully situated on a small island surrounded by beautiful nature. During the Middle Ages, this was a center for a star political ecclesiastical power as this was the archbishop's summer house. Several exciting and hilarious stories have taken place here. Today, the main attraction is its Gothic arches.
Ve visits the open Härkeberga or other medieval church with frescoes. We visit one of the medieval churches in the area around The hope is that we will be able to visit one of Albertus Pictor's churches that he painted in the area, the German is one of Sweden's foremost medieval artists.
Boglösa Rock carving area On the way back to Stockholm, we take a look at the Boglösa Rock Carving area, which is one of the largest areas with rock carvings near Stockholm.
