What to expect

The hike begins in the traditional village of Monolithos, located on the undeveloped western side of Rhodes ascending green slopes shaded by pines and cypress trees, with beautiful views over the Bay of Apollakia.

The trail gradually becomes more demanding as you navigate rocky sections, rewarding you with incredible photo opportunities at every turn. After the most strenuous part of the ascent you’ll stop at the small historic chapel of Agios Ioannis (St John) to enjoy a traditional Greek snack.

From here, the trail continues upward toward the summit. A short rocky scramble marks the final approach, and once you reach the top, the views are nothing short of spectacular. From the summit of Akramitis, you’ll enjoy 360-degree panoramic views over both sides of Rhodes, the lake of Apollakia, inland villages, Mount Attaviros, nearby islands such as Halki, Alimia, and Tilos, and on clear days even Karpathos and the Turkish coastline.

The descent follows a different route, leading you through a shaded forest of tall pine trees. Thanks to the dense tree cover and refreshing mountain breeze, this hike can be enjoyed even during warmer days..
