You will visit three of the most important sites in Greece and you will experience the phenomenon of Meteora.
Day 1: Delphi Delphi It is located 190 kilometres from Athens but it is worth the trip.We depart from Athens and head northwest towards Delphi. Our journey to Delphi takes us through some marvelous countryside, and soon we reach Mount Parnassus, where we will make stop at Arachova. From here we head towards to Delphi a place full of energy, and the place where heaven and earth met. Here lies the Sanctuary of Apollo, where Oracle Pythia was talking to the God, asking for his wisdom on behalf of the numerous visitors seeking for celestial help. The Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Athena Pronaia, the Castalian Spring, the Gymnasium and the Ancient Theatre. A visit to the Archeological Museum of Delphi gives us the chance to see up close the famous bronze Charioteer of Delphi, Time for a meal at a traditional Greek tavern in the new village of Delphi! After lunch you will depart for Meteora, Driving via the cities of Amphissa, Lamia and Trikala, you will reach Kalampaka. Overnight
Day 2: After you get a good breakfast, we start our tour of the monasteries. You will visit Meteora, a series of 24 Greek Orthodox monasteries that are spectacularly perched on top of rocky pinnacles that rise over 400m above the ground. The name Meteora means ‘suspended in the air’ and it perfectly describes the monks’ The monasteries flourished until the 17th century, but only 6 survive today. Aghios Stephanos, Aghia Trias, Varlaam and Meteoron Monastery are those that still host religious communities and are accessible by staircases cut into the gigantic rock formations. Finally, you will make all the necessary stops to enjoy the scenery and take hundreds of photos. After completing your tour, you will dine at a local restaurant.
After your meal, will pass through Thermopylae, the city where the famous battle took place back in 480 BC. During the battle of Thermopylae, the king of Sparta Leonidas & 300 Spartan soldiers fought against king Xerxes of Persia who wanted to invade Greece. Even though the Greeks were outnumbered by the vast Persian force, Leonidas and his soldiers refused to surrender and were sacrificed in order to defend the country. A little later we take the road back to Athens, having in our baggage the best of memories and hundreds of photos
