Pochampally is a village of 5,000 looms where every household is part of one extraordinary craft tradition — the weaving of Ikat silk sarees whose technique was the first Indian textile to receive Geographical Indication protection. These are the sarees worn by Air India cabin crew.
The design is not applied after weaving but embedded in the threads before the loom is set up, each thread individually tied and dyed to carry its exact portion of the pattern. The result floats between the weave layers in a way no other technique produces.
This tour takes you into the homes of the weavers, through the 24 acre textile park and into the weaving museum where the village history and its connection with the Bhoodan land reform movement is told in full.
Private car from Hyderabad, expert guide, all entry fees and lunch included.

We take a walk around Pochampally village, which is the home of the iconic weavers of Ikat style Sarees popularly called Pochampally Sarees. The secret of Pochampally Saree weaving lies in using cotton, silk or a combination of the 2 fabrics and weave after transferring the intricate design and colouring onto warp and weft threads. Pochampally has traditional looms, whose design is more than a century old. There are around 5000 looms in this village which churn out these magical Sarees. We will visit the Handloom textile park to learn a bit about dying, drying and designing stages of the making of a Pochampally Saree. We visit a unique Weaving Museum where not only do you get to learn about weaving but also about the history of the village and its connection with the revolutionary Bhoodan movement. Meeting Weavers is the highlight of this tour. We will experience how Saree weaving is a family affair where every member has a specific role to play in the process.
