The Bourguiba mausoleum is a monumental cemetery in Monastir, Tunisia, that houses the remains of former Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, known as the "Father of Tunisian Independence," who died on April 6, 2000. It was erected in 1963, while Bourguiba was still alive, in the contemporary Arab-Muslim style. The structure is flanked by two 25-meter-tall minarets and capped by a golden dome sandwiched between two green domes. Tunisian art may be seen in the tomb entry gate and the gate that divides it from the remainder of the cemetery. There is a tiny museum within the tomb that has some of President Bourguiba's personal belongings: his desk from the presidential palace of Carthage, his pencils, passports and identity cards, his spectacles, as well as his portraits and clothing
