Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya, and the second highest in Africa (after Mount Kilimanjaro). The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 m – 17,058 ft), Nelion (5,188 m – 17,022 ft) and Lenana (4,985 m – 16,355 ft). Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, just south of the equator, around 150 km (95 miles) north-northeast of Nairobi. The area around the mountain is protected in the Mount Kenya National Park, which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The National Park is around 620 km² (240 square miles), and receives up to 15,000 visitors every year.

    Day 1

    Nairobi - Mount Kenya

    Mount Kenya National Park

    Road Trip Nairobi to Chogoria 3hours; Overnight Chogoria Town (Chogoria (1,550 m) We depart Nairobi from the airport or your hotel and head north on good macadamized roads to Chogoria town, about 225 km away, arriving in time for lunch at the Transit Motel. The journey takes about 3 hours driving through rich agricultural lands. Afternoon will be spent walking, sightseeing and acclimatizing around the town on the foothills of Mount Kenya. After partaking of dinner an overnight stay at the Hotel.

    Chogoria - Meru Mount Kenya Lodge (Bandas)

    Half-way transfer by 4 x 4 vehicle then long hike (kilometers) to Meru Mount Kenya Bandas Mount Kenya After breakfast we take 4×4 Jeeps and drive for 11 Km halfway to the lodge where we start our trek through the dense bamboo forest for distance of 11 km up to the Bandas for lunch. Afternoon will be spent walking around the lodge with a view of beautiful sceneries. After dinner an overnight stay at the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas. At the Bandas there are only single beds. Hot showers and hot meals are available at the self-catering Bandas(2,900m).

    Meru Mount Kenya Bandas to Lake Ellis Camp (3,600m)

    After a Late Start we traverse the Mount Kenya slopes from Meru Mount Kenya Bandas (2,900m) to Lake Ellis (3,600m) At an easy pace we continue with our 6 Days Mt Kenya Hiking Expedition after breakfast, going through lush mountain vegetation with scenic views the mountain-sides. The flora and the animal kingdom come alive as we hike up the mountain, giving us unforgettable memories of the walk. We lunch en-route and reach Lake Ellis Camp (3,600m) after a trek of over three hours .

    Trek to Highland Castle

    Trek to Highland Castle, approx.10kms / 5-6h. Ascent: +1,100m. Details: The bamboo give way to enormous podocarpus and pencil cedar forest and as we climb higher we pass through the Hygenia or Hypercium zone also know as the rosewood zone (generally found at 2850-3000m). We spend the night close to the sheer lava cliffs of the "Highland Castle".

    SUMMIT – 4,985m / OLDMOSES CAMP – 3,340m

    Mount Kenya National Park

    Trek via Pt. Lenana to Oldmoses Camp. Approx. 20Kms/9hrs. Ascent: 749m to the summit / Descent: -1645m to Oldmoses Camp. D5 Details: Just before dawn we are woken by our guides and hot tea is served before we begin the last leg of our trek to the summit. The trek begins beneath the stars as we zigzag our way up a large scree slope guided only by torch light to reach Pt. Lenana. It's an exhilarating 3 hours from here to reach the hiker's summit, Pt Lenana (4985m) in time for the sunrise!. A further 2 hours down to Shipton's camp (4200m) for a hefty breakfast. Then down to OldMoses Camp 3340m. for overnight.

    MOUNTAIN ROCK LODGE / NAIROBI

    Hike to Sirimon gate (2,600m)approx 10kms / 2h. Descent : -740m Transfer to Nairobi via Mountain Rock lodge. (Span, 230kms / 4-5h). A short morning trek to Sirimon park gate (2600m) and connect with the vehicle for transfer back to Mountain Rock Lodge for a hot shower and lunch before the journey back to Nairobi.
