Il‑Maqluba is a dramatic natural sinkhole in the village of Qrendi, formed in 1343 after the ground suddenly collapsed. According to Maltese legend, the site was once a sinful hamlet that was swallowed into the earth as divine punishment — sparing only a righteous woman. Today, Il-Maqluba is both a geological wonder and a place of folklore, surrounded by protected Mediterranean vegetation and centuries of faith-inspired storytelling, making it one of Malta’s most intriguing countryside landmarks.

The heart of Qrendi is a quiet, traditional village core that reflects authentic Maltese life.
