What to expect

Board the Polar Explorer at Axelsvik in Swedish Lapland for a 3-hour icebreaker cruise on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia. Watch the ship move through sea ice, explore seven decks with an audio guide, and see the Icebreaker Cinema film.

During the cruise stop, step onto the frozen sea when conditions allow. You can also put on a thermal survival suit and float in the icy water. The crew makes the final decision on all ice activities based on ice thickness, sea conditions and safety.

Warm up with a hot drink on board. At the end of the cruise, receive a Cruise & Swim Certificate signed by the Captain. Choose Own Transport or a round-trip shuttle option from Rovaniemi, Kemi and Tornio, or Luleå. Shuttle options have a longer total duration, including the journey to and from Axelsvik.
