Punta Tombo is one of the most important wildlife reserves in Argentina and home to the largest Magellanic penguin colony in South America. Located on the Atlantic coast of Patagonia, this unique reserve extends over 3,000 hectares and welcomes more than a million penguins each year during the breeding season, from September to April. The landscape is characterized by vast, open steppe and a rugged coastline, providing the perfect environment for penguins to nest and raise their chicks. Visitors can walk along designated trails that allow them to observe the penguins up close as they go about their daily activities—digging burrows, feeding their young, and waddling between the land and the sea. This protected reserve is not only a spectacular destination for nature lovers but also an important conservation area, helping to preserve the fragile ecosystem that supports these incredible species.
