The Chogoria route is known of its magnificent scenes; the loud and splashing Nithi falls, clean and sparkly rivers and springs, the Mugi hills perfect for bird watching and the magnificent lake Michaelson with the Temple above it. The Sirimon route used for descending has the perfect view of the giant groundsels and lobelia.

Nairobi - Road head (3300m) 4 hrs, 350m Ascent, distance of 7 km. We depart from Nairobi in the morning and drive to Mount Kenya Bandas for Lunch. It is a 4-hour drive that’ll give you ample time to enjoy the view of Kenya’s agricultural rich countryside. After lunch, we start hiking Mount Kenya towards Chogoria Road Head camp along a dirt road. The trek gives us scenic views of the Giant’s Billiards Table, Ithanguni, and Mugi Hill. These magnificent land formations are only found in the highest Mountain in Kenya. There is also the option of trekking along the river to Road Head. The 3 km path by the river is adorned with beautiful flora. We reach Road Head, have dinner, and stay overnight at the campsite.
Road Head Campsite – Minto’s Camp (4,200M) 5-6 Hrs. 10Km, 900m Ascent Our Mount Kenya hike on this day will start early to reach Mintos camp before dark. Although the day’s trek will be demanding, we’ll still have plenty of time to enjoy the amazing views Chogoria is known for; Gorges Valley, Muga Hills, and Giant Billiards Table among others. While hiking around Mount Kenya, we’ll occasionally stop by the streams and rivers to drink water and refill our bottles. We have a picnic lunch while enjoying the views of the vast plains below and snowcapped peaks ahead. We have dinner and an overnight stay at Minto’s camp.
Minto’s Camp – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp (3,300m) 11-12 Hrs, 24 Km. 785Ascent, 1,685M Descent We start the day early at 3 AM so as to reach the summit in time for the African sunrise. After breakfast, we continue hiking Mount Kenya following a continuous rocky path that leads us to Point Lenana. Once on the peak, we watch the sunrise slowly illuminate the mountain and the vast landscapes below. After summiting Mount Kenya, we start our descent via the Sirimon route. This route is a gentle and beautiful one that offers a smooth hiking experience filled with the beautiful sights of Mackinder’s Valley. The trek ends at Old Moses camp, where we have dinner, and enjoy our last night on Mount Kenya.
A gentle descent to the Sirimon gate after breakfast that takes around 2 hours three at most to find an awaiting vehicle to take us back to Nairobi.
