    Day 1

    Nairobi to Lake Ellis

    Depart Nairobi early in the morning and travel to Chogoria town on the eastern side of Mount Kenya. After completing park entry formalities and meeting your guide, continue by vehicle through the forest zone toward the trailhead. The trek to Lake Ellis takes you through beautiful moorland landscapes dotted with giant lobelias, heather, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking valleys and rolling hills. As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with occasional views of Mount Kenya's peaks on clear days. Arrive at Lake Ellis in the afternoon, set up camp, and spend the rest of the day relaxing by the lakeshore. The peaceful alpine setting provides excellent opportunities for photography, birdwatching, and enjoying a spectacular sunset before dinner and an overnight stay at camp.

    Lake Ellis Exploration and Return to Nairobi

    Wake up early to experience sunrise over Lake Ellis, when the calm waters often reflect the surrounding mountains and moorland. After breakfast, take a leisurely exploration walk around the lake and nearby viewpoints, appreciating the unique high-altitude ecosystem and the quiet beauty of the Chogoria route. Depending on time and fitness levels, you may hike to nearby ridges for broader views of the Gorges Valley and Mount Kenya's peaks. Later in the morning, begin your descent back through the moorland and forest zones to the pickup point. After meeting your vehicle, return to Chogoria and continue the journey back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening with memorable experiences from one of Mount Kenya's most scenic alpine destinations.
