Matmata is a city in southern Tunisia famous for its troglodyte houses, which are dwellings dug into the ground and hills. These houses are built in natural caves or man-made pits, and have bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. The inhabitants traditionally live in these cave houses to protect themselves from the intense heat of summer and the cold of winter. Matmata is also famous for having served as a filming location for several scenes from the Star Wars saga. Ksar Ghilane
Ksar Ghilane is an oasis located in the south of Tunisia, in the middle of the desert. Chenini is a traditional Berber village located on a hill in southern Tunisia, not far from Tataouine. The village is surrounded by breathtaking desert landscapes and picturesque mountains. Chenini is famous for its traditional stone architecture, which dates back centuries. During your visit to Chenini, you can discover the narrow and winding streets of the village, stroll through the local souks and admire the traditional stone houses with their colorful doors and windows. Ksar Ghilane
Lunch at the camp and departure to Ksar Ghilane, beautiful Saharan oasis at the beginning of the eastern Erg. • After lunch, continue to Toujene, a small picturesque village, established on the slopes of the mountains overlooking a narrow gorge carved by a wadi. Panoramic stop with the possibility of visiting an underground oil mill (open only during the days of picking olives). • Return to Djerba via the ferry or the Roman road.
