Katarinahissen is a passenger elevator with a viewing platform in the Stockholm district of Södermalm, one of the attractions of the Swedish capital. From the observation platform, located at an altitude of more than 30 m above Slussen, an extensive panorama of Gamlastan and the adjacent water area opens.
Stockholm city hall can be seen from the embankments and bridges of the Gamla Stan. The elegant brick structure appeared in the beginning of the 20th century on the spit of the Kungsholmen island. The city hall is a venue for the Nobel Prize banquet and the symbol of Stockholm.
Vasa is a giant Swedish warship built between 1626 and 1628 to become the flagship and the pride of Sweden. The ship foundered after sailing about 1,300 m (1,400 yd) into her maiden voyage on 10 August 1628. She was located in the late 1950s in a busy shipping lane just outside the Stockholm harbor. Salvaged with a largely intact hull in 1961, it was eventually moved to the Vasa Museum in Stockholm.
The Royal island of Djurgarden is one of the main attractions of Stockholm and a favorite vacation spot of its inhabitants. The island is officially called Kungliga Djurgarden - "Royal Safari Park". It is located near the city center and was once a favorite hunting ground of the Swedish kings.
