Staying in Taormina is the best option for you to explore and to be guided to the discovery of some of the most impressive extinct craters of Mount Etna, formed during the so-called “perfect eruption” of 2002. During this incredible event, the volcano destroyed the tourist station of Piano Provenzana, which was later reconstructed in 2004.
Our hike will start exactly from this area. You will be able to admire the peak of the summit craters, visible throughout the entire excursion. Take your time to stop every now and then during the ascent, until you reach the Saponaria fields immediately before the button-hole system of the 2002 craters. With your hiking guide, you will discover different kinds of lava, learn about ancient eruptions, and interesting facts about the volcano.
Please, note: among our Mount Etna tours from Taormina, this is the one that requires a slightly better fitness level.
We will agree with the guests on the proper meeting point.
