Our first stop will be at the Gran Hotel Bolivar , this majestic 102-year-old hotel; in it we will see one of the first modern cars that had the city of Lima and multiple celebrated artists who stayed at the Gran Hotel Bolivar.
We will visit the Plaza San Martín, located in the heart of Lima, where we will know one of the most emblematic spaces of the city, surrounded by elegant republican style buildings and presided over by the monument to the liberator Don José de San Martín; during the tour we will enjoy free time to take photographs, appreciate its historical architecture and feel the cultural atmosphere of the center of the capital, before continuing to the main attractions of the Historic Center of Lima.
We will visit the Church and Convent of La Merced, located in the traditional Union Jirón, where we will appreciate one of the most beautiful baroque facades in Lima and know its important historical and religious value; inside it stands out the image of the Virgin of Mercy, patron saint of the Armed Forces of Peru, in addition to its altars, altarpieces and artistic details that reflect colonial heritage, making this visit a must-see during our tour of the Historic Center of Lima.
We will visit Lima’s Plaza Mayor, also known as Plaza de Armas, where we will know the city’s founding point and one of the most important spaces in the country; surrounded by Lima Cathedral, the Government Palace, the Municipal Palace and the Archbishop’s Palace, this emblematic place will allow us to appreciate colonial architecture, take photographs and understand Lima’s history from its origin, being an essential stop on our tour of the Historic Center.
We will visit the Catacombs of Lima, located under the Convent of San Francisco, where we will take a guided tour of one of the most striking spaces of the Historic Center; we will know its function as an ancient colonial cemetery, observe the arrangement of the skeletal remains and learn about the funeral traditions of the viceroyal era, turning this visit into a unique cultural experience that connects us with the deeper history of the city.
We will visit the Chinese Quarter where we can observe multiple chifas and Chinese history in Peru.
Then we will visit the Ramón Castilla Market, where we will taste a varied selection of Peruvian fruits and tour local stands, where we will also have the opportunity to taste typical dishes such as dungeons, picarones, anticuchos, ceviche, among other traditional specialties of Peruvian cuisine.
