Reception and transportation to our office, some information about the excursion then you will start 1:30 to 2 hours car trip to the Tambopata river (48 km. pave road and 18 km. dirt road) then 10 minutes more to our lodge (lunch at our lodge) During the trip on dirt road we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, typical Amazon communities, birds pass over the car and animals such as agoutis and monkeys. Reception and accommodation at our lodge. After you will have the opportunity to visit the 40 meter canopy tower, from there it offers unrivalled views of the Rainforest. There, you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction, here animals are most active in the canopy like macaws flying at this level as well as toucans and many colorful birds. In the night we will get a night walk and see some of the amazing tree frogs, maybe snakes, spiders like tarantulas, stick insects and many other animals active in the night, and then return and dinner.
Tambopata National Reserve is primarily characterized by protecting wildlife, flora, and fauna, as well as the scenic beauty of the subtropical rainforest of southeastern Peru. It includes habitats such as aguajales, pacales, clay licks, chestnut groves, terrace forests, riparian forests, and lakes or cochas, which form unique ecosystems with a high diversity of species, many of which have very restricted ranges. Puerto Maldonado, thanks to its scenic resources and emblematic flora and fauna species, is an exceptionally potential destination for nature tourism and environmental education. Attractions include the oxbow lakes, such as Sandoval, Cocococha, and Sachavacayoc, among others; and the Chuncho and Colorado macaw clay licks, which are home to hundreds of psittacines.
Early wake up at 4:30 a.m. to begin with our 1:30 hours journey upstream in Tambopata river to Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick in Tambopata Reserve, a good opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife, and with a bit of luck the South American feline, the Jaguar can be seen. At our arrival, we will observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay, the mealy parrot, blue headed, orange check, dusky headed, white eyed and then the large macaws like the blue, yellow, red and green, an unforgettable experience! In the middle morning we return to the lodge and enjoy the facilities of our lodge. At middle day good opportunity to go to swim at the river, we did it several times and it is very refreshing. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon you will go to an etnobotanical long jungle walk to learn about medicinal plants, and a great opportunity to see more mammals and big trees. Dinner and rest.
It is considered an important attraction for being one of the largest in the country and for bird watching such as the macaw. This clay lick is known for its spectacular sightings and a variety of psittacids (macaws, parrots, and others), such as the Ara ararauna, Ara macao, Ara chloropterus, Ara colounico, and Ara militaris. They take advantage of this natural offering to supplement their diet and counteract the toxins they ingest in fruits and wild seeds. This landscape has been formed on the banks by river erosion, which exposed soils rich in mineral salts (potassium, sodium, and others) and organic components.
Before breakfast we will go on another jungle walk (optional) to visit again the Canopy Tower to see colorful birds such as toucans, oropendolas, hummingbirds, trogons, woodpeckers, nunbirds, tanagers, jacamars, etc. Sunrise according weather conditions is amazing from the Canopy of the trees and return to the lodge for breakfast. Finally you go back to Puerto Maldonado and in the city we will be sure you are in time to take your flight to Lima or Cuzco.
