Join us on a bike adventure and come cycling with us. Let's delve into the mysteries of the vines, savor wines with the vintners, and uncover the "human side of terroir": stories, decision-making, and the distinctive individual styles of winemakers.

Our journey begins with an immersive experience in the famous red wine region of Dealu Mare. This region, often referred to as the 'Tuscany of Romania,' is among the oldest and most distinguished wine-growing areas in the country.

It is situated on the same latitude as Northern Italy, but tourism is still at the very beginning. Dealu Mare offers more than 6.000 years of settlement history, a Mediterranean climate from April to October, and excellent wines from sunny southward hills.

During this weekend cycling excursion, you'll have the opportunity to explore several undiscovered wineries and visit beautiful historical and cultural sites in the Dealu Mare region.

“Crama 1777” Museum is a reconstruction of one of the oldest wine cellars in Romania. It existed in the same village until 1985, originally with only one building. The cellar is built of oak beams, with a shingle roof, housing the tools used to make wine. The entrance to the cellar conceals the year the cellar was founded, along with the story of the saw teeth, carved into the wood, and their role in pulling the grapes through the barrel. The entrance to the museum is made from the porch. A large hall with wooden walls and a brick floor houses the collection of tools used in the wine sector: chippers, crushers, presses, wine pumps, slurry pumps, a large barrel (budan), even a plow. In addition to these objects, there is also a nursery (tools used in wood processing), a collection of old labels, but also a wine cellar, where award winning wines from Dealu Mare area are included.

Upon returning to Tohani, we'll conclude our journey with a brief visit to Mierla Alba, followed by a delightful barbecue and wine tasting hosted by the wonderful team at Licorna Winery. In the evening return to Bucharest. Licorna Winehouse was reopened in 2013, but the history of the place goes back long before Licorna wines appeared. Over 100 years ago, a local family, Nicolae Nicolau and wife Elena decided to build a cellar on this very spot after the husband had a dream in which 16th century Romanian ruler Constantin Brancoveanu ordered him to make a wine as black in colour as the cockerel in his backyard. Well, the black wine requested by the Prince is still made in the area and the fairytale cellars go by the name of Licorna Winehouse. The original manor of the Nicolau family was the place where each year’s wines were matured and aged. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 215 m, half way between the villages of Gura Vadului and Vadu Săpat, Prahova County.
