4Temple of Poseidon
The 5th-century BC Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio is best experienced at sunset. Perched on cliffs above the Aegean, its ruins, surrounded by sea on three sides, offer breathtaking views. Mentioned in Homer's The Odyssey, this iconic spot also drew English poet Lord Byron in 1811, who carved his name into one of the temple's Doric columns.
