Historically, it was an important commercial center along the ancient Tea Horse Road and is well known as a cultural heartland of the Bai ethnic people. The town is famous for its well-preserved Bai architecture, featuring traditional residential courtyards with ornate wooden carvings, marble decorations, and distinctive horse-head walls. Many of these houses were built during the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, reflecting both Bai and Western architectural influences due to historical trade and returned overseas merchants.
The Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple are an iconic ensemble located near the old town of Dali, Yunnan Province, China. Built during the Tang and early Song dynasties (9th–10th centuries), these pagodas form an equilateral triangle at the eastern foot of Cangshan Mountain and command majestic views overlooking Erhai Lake.
