Takes you to the time when the villages of Victoria and Buxton were created by the recently freed slaves. Visit the monuments that tell the story of the struggle for freedom. Journey around the villages and hear the history. We will prepare the Metemgee, Cook Rice, Fried Fish, and Conkee tracing the origins of these foods to the time back then.

    Visit the 1763 Monument and learn about the first rebellion

    Represents the 1823 slave revolt which finally slavery in Guyana

    journey to the village of Victoria, the first village in Guyana to be purchased by the freed ex-slaves.

    Buxton

    Then on to the Buxton Friendship Museum. Here is where we will have a guided tour on the history of the freed slaves in Buxton, and how it was born. Then on to the site of the Buxton Train station and view the spot where the train was stopped by the freed female ex-slaves who were protesting to the Governor. about the high taxes imposed on them. Then on to meet the granddaughter of the ex-slave ladies who stopped the train. Auntie Gloria is a 3rd generation herbalist who like her mother before her and her mother before her has been treating the people of Buxton all their lives.15 minutes

    Georgetown

    it’s on to the Secret Garden in Georgetown where we will then start to create the delicious traditional dishes of Cook-Up rice, Metemgee with pumpkin dumplings and fried fish followed by conkee a coconut dessert wrapped in a banana leaf. whilst being entertained by the sound of African drumming. Eon will take to the guitar and sing some songs to end your tour.
