Imagine yourself passing through a system of caverns with a plethora of fascinating mineral formations as you enter the infraworld. The infraworld, where some of the Maya deities resided, was thought to be accessible through caverns, according to ancient Maya beliefs. For the Mayan people of Guatemala, caves remain sacred sites. It is believed that "Sacred Stone" is what the name "Bombil" means in q'eqchí. The caves were considered a holy site where various rituals were performed to make requests for things like power, health, and abundant crops. Here, rock art and ceramic fragments were discovered among skulls. This was the first location in Guatemala where rock drawings were found, and the painting dates back over 28 centuries! We're going to have an exciting day filled with lots of nature. To find the location of the cave entrance, practice rappelling for fun. Explore the mineral formations within and establish a connection with the beliefs of an ancient society.
