Step into a haunting and powerful chapter of Peru’s colonial past at this beautifully preserved 17th-century hacienda. Once one of the region’s largest sugar plantations, Hacienda San José is now a luxurious hotel - but its underground slave tunnels remain intact. With your guide, explore this labyrinthine network of smuggling tunnels that stretch 17 kilometers to the coast, used to bypass anti-slavery patrols. Learn how these hidden corridors shaped the Afro-Peruvian identity and traditions that live on today. A deep, moving cultural experience not found in guidebooks.
Arrive in the charming coastal town of Paracas around 1:30 PM. The afternoon is yours to relax and explore. Walk along the beach, enjoy fresh seafood, or consult your guide for optional experiences like the Golden Shadow Trek - a scenic cliffside hike with panoramic ocean views.
