We begin the journey early with door-to-door pickup from your hotel or hostel in Miraflores, Barranco, or San Isidro. You’ll travel aboard a Peru Hop bus, known for comfort, safety, and free high-speed Wi-Fi onboard - perfect for staying connected or sharing your trip as you go. Along the way, watch Lima’s urban sprawl give way to wide-open coastal desert landscapes as you head south along the Pan-American Highway. Your guide will confirm pickup time the day before via Viator chat.
Midway through the morning, we stop at Mirasur, a hidden gem bakery and rest stop located right off the highway. Known for freshly baked bread straight from adobe ovens, this is a chance to enjoy a rustic breakfast just like the locals do. Try pan con chicharrón (pork belly sandwich) or sweet tamales with coffee while watching the bakers in action.
Step into Peru’s complex colonial past at Hacienda San José, a beautifully preserved 17th-century estate turned boutique hotel. This site was once home to a sprawling plantation worked by enslaved Africans. You’ll tour the main house and descend into the secret underground tunnels - an astonishing 17-kilometer network once used to smuggle enslaved people inland from the coast. Your guide will share powerful stories that shed light on the origins of Afro-Peruvian culture, music, and identity. A must-see for history lovers.
After a morning full of culture and cuisine, arrive in Paracas, a relaxed fishing town and launchpad to the Pacific coast’s natural wonders. Spend your free afternoon strolling the waterfront malecón, sipping a pisco sour by the beach, or trying fresh ceviche at one of the harborfront restaurants. Want to keep exploring? Ask your guide about optional add-ons like the Golden Shadow Trek or a walk along the red-sand beaches of the reserve.
At 8:00 am, start your day with a speedboat ride across the Pacific to the iconic Ballestas Islands, often called “Peru’s Galápagos.” As you cut through the waves, keep your camera ready - these rocky islets are teeming with wildlife. You’ll spot Humboldt penguins, sea lions, pelicans, and thousands of nesting seabirds. Along the way, view the massive and mysterious Candelabra geoglyph carved into the cliffside - an ancient symbol that has puzzled archaeologists for generations.
From 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm, venture into one of South America's largest coastal protected areas - the Paracas National Reserve. Here, the raw desert collides with the deep blue Pacific in a surreal blend of colors and textures. Visit panoramic viewpoints such as La Catedral (The Cathedral rock formation), the stunning Playa Roja (Red Beach), and salt flats that shimmer in the sun. You can upgrade to a quad biking tour through the reserve—ask your guide on the day of the tour!
From 04:30 pm to 06:30 pm, in the late afternoon, arrive at Huacachina, South America’s only natural desert oasis. Ringed by palm trees and golden dunes, this surreal village looks straight out of a dream. Hop into a high-powered dune buggy and prepare for an exhilarating ride up and down the towering dunes - some as tall as a 10-story building. After the adrenaline rush, grab a board and sandboard down the slopes, whether sitting or standing. As the sun sets over the sand, the entire landscape glows gold - perfect for unforgettable photos. You’ll spend the night in Huacachina. Explore the oasis after dark with a cold drink, dinner by the lagoon, or simply relax under a blanket of desert stars.
Start your day at Pisco Nietto, one of the oldest artisanal vineyards in the Ica Valley and a proud producer of Peru’s national spirit: Pisco. During this guided visit, you’ll discover the traditional production process - from grape harvesting and fermentation to copper-pot distillation and bottling. Wander the rustic grape fields, see antique distillery tools, and breathe in the sweet scent of fermenting fruit. After the tour, enjoy a generous tasting session featuring a variety of Piscos, including infused and aged selections. Don’t forget to try Pisco crema, a sweet local favorite. You’ll have free time to relax in the vineyard's shaded garden café and enjoy an optional lunch, with dishes like wood-fired chicken or local carapulcra with sopa seca.
Following the vineyard visit, journey deeper into the desert toward Nazca, the legendary land of ancient geoglyphs. Along the way, your guide will stop at a roadside viewing tower, where you’ll get a free glimpse of three iconic Nazca Lines - commonly the Hands, Tree, and Lizard figures.
At 11:00 am, prepare for one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life - a scenic flight over the world-famous Nazca Lines. Buckle in and soar above the desert where over a dozen massive geoglyphs come into view: the Monkey, Hummingbird, Condor, Astronaut, Tree, and more. Each shape spans hundreds of feet and can only be fully appreciated from the air - this perspective makes their scale, precision, and mystery truly mind-blowing.
After touching down, continue your journey back in time with a visit to the Cantalloc Aqueducts - a marvel of pre-Inca hydraulic engineering. Built over 2,000 years ago by the Nazca Culture, these spiral-shaped underground channels carried fresh water from the Andes across the arid valley, sustaining agriculture in one of the driest places on Earth. Walk along the still-functioning system, descend into one of the spirals, and learn how these structures used stone, gravity, and airflow to bring life to the desert - a rare and humbling encounter with ancient ingenuity.
At 03:00 pm, board your comfortable Peru Hop bus with onboard high-speed Wi-Fi - perfect for catching up on messages or posting your best photos from the trip. Travel back through the Ica desert toward Huacachina, where you’ll enjoy a brief stop to stretch your legs or grab a snack before continuing on to Lima.
At 7:00 pm, take the Peru Hop bus back to Lima. Lean back, relax, and reflect on four incredible days of travel - from the wild sea cliffs of Paracas to the mystic lines of Nazca. Arrive in Lima in the late evening, where you’ll be dropped off directly at your hotel or hostel.
