A few kilometers away we will find the port of Rawson, where the waters of the Chubut River meet with the sea and next to it, is located the beach resort town Playa Union, located on the open sea and part of Bahía Engaño. Here we have the option to venture into the unforgettable experience of sailing these waters in conjunction with the sighting of Toninas Overas, popularly known as Patagonian Dolphin. Sailing is done in semi-rigid boats looking for the encounter with these dolphins super friendly and active, coastal habits and who like to ride ocean waves and follow the boats. They are usually observed in groups of 2 to 10 specimens.
Escondida Island is a pristine beach that has become a seafarer for elephants. In this territory we will have the possibility to observe these immense mammals up to 4 tons, males in their reproductive age, develop a tube or proboscis with which they produce loud roars to keep out the competition. By mid-November, adult males leave the beaches and leave room for the young with their mothers, who protect and feed them until they shed their skin in November. Observation of this sightseeing will be at a privileged distance, making this visit an unforgettable experience. Finishing this beautiful experience on Isla Escondida, we head towards Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area. After the tour to Punta Tombo, we begin the return to Puerto Madryn.
Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area is the largest continental colony of Magellanic Penguins in the world. Magellanic penguins arrive annually in this territory to develop their natural process, through different activities: nesting, feeding, mating, having their young, shedding their plumage and preparing for later, embarking on their journey back to Northeastern South America, returning the following year.
