Achilleion is a palace built for the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi. It is located about 10 km south of the city of Corfu and provides a panoramic view of the city to the north, and across the whole southern part of the island to the Ionian Sea. The architectural style was designed to suggest an ancient palace of mythical Phaeacia. The motif center on the hero Achilles of Greek mythology, from which the name is derived. Corfu was Elisabeth's favourite vacation destination and she wanted a palace to gratify her admiration for Greece, its language and its culture. The property currently operates as a museum under the management of Hellenic Tourism Development Company within the Greek National Tourism Organisation.

The location of Kanoni with the church of Panagia Vlacherna below and the Mouse Island (Pontikonissi) are the most famous and photographed spots of Corfu. Kanoni is actually a quarter of Corfu Town, just a couple of km from the city center. Fishing boats depart frequently from the church and go to the legendary Mouse Island, just 5 min boat ride. This lush green island took this name due to its tiny size. According to mythology, this rocky island is the ship of Ulysses that was stoned by god Poseidon. In the center of the Mouse Island, there is the 13th-century church of Pantokrator.

Mon Repos Palace is situated on top of Analipsis hill, near Kanoni area, in the middle of a beautiful setting full of greenery. It was built in 1826 by the British Commissioner Frederic Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife, Nina Palatianou. It is a small but very beautiful palace with colonial architectural elements.Later on, the palace became the summer residence of all British governors of Corfu and when the Ionian Islands were united to Greece, in 1864, it was given as a gift to King George I of Greece. This is also the house where Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, the husband of Queen Elisabeth II, was born into on June, 10th, 1921.

We will visit the church of Saint Spiridon, the patron saint of the Island and a miracle worker. It was erected during the 16th century and the architecture of the church is typical of the Venetian architecture. It' s bell tower is the highest spot of the town that is seen all over the Old Town of Corfu. The locals have deep faith in Agios Spiridon, who is considered the keeper of the island. Inside the Church of Saint Spiridon is a crypt, where his relics are kept in a double sarcophagus.
