Our meeting point is at Plaza Cervantes on the outside of the clock tower, across the avenue. There is a statue whose name is the same as the square. You will recognize us because we identify ourselves with an ORANGE UMBRELLA with the name Nexperience on it and our tour guide holding it! :)
Also known as the Alfonso Mejía Theater, located on the path of the wall that surrounds the historic center of the city.
We will start our tour in the square with the monument to Cervantes Saavedra, where we will learn about different legends of the Colombian Caribbean, in addition, we will introduce anecdotes from one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, “Gabo”, as Gabriel García Márquez who is affectionately known.
We will continue to Palito de Caucho, where you can try a Cartagena delicacy. What will it be? We continue the tour to learn about the biography of the most important journalist and author in Colombia.
The moment Gabo decides to be a writer is discussed and about the book "La Hojarasca" or “Leaf Storm”. Some Cartagena legends are told too.
We will meet the inspiration location for "Love in the time of cholera" and the "General in his Labyrinth" books of Gabo.
We are going to talk about the importance of the Hotel Santa Clara in Gabo's works, as well as other institutions that we find there. As well as legends and anecdotes of Gabriel García Marquez.
We will pass by the Museum of the "Colegio de la Presentación" and Calle del Estanco del Aguardiente where the anecdotes of Gabo's life will come to life.
We will visit the place that is clearly referenced in Gabo's work. The historic location also houses great works by Enrique Grau (Gabo's friend) and Luis Vincens. There are few times in which the Theater and its activities are mentioned in "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "Diatribe of love against a seated man".
We will be able to know the place where part of Gabo's ashes lie and a tribute is made to his life.
We will pass by the University of Cartagena (anecdotes) and Calle del Tablon, where is indicated a house as the most important of the contemporary poet that the city has had: Luis Carlos López, better known as "El tuerto López", alluding to strabismus of the right eye. Brother of Domingo López Escauriaza, founder of a famous newspaper El Universal, Gabo met Tuerto in that newsroom and although they did not have a close relationship, in the writer's memoirs it is evidenced that he was a character who had a powerful impact on him due to his particular way of seeing life.
This is the right street to invoke the facts that twist the destiny of Sierva María of "De todos Los Angeles" and at the same time make love born in “Del Amor y Otros Demonios”. An anecdote in the American Ice Cream Shop that existed on this street.
"El Mesón de Don Sancho". The most elegant restaurant and home service in Cartagena that appears portrayed for humanity in Gabo's works "Love in the time of cholera" and "Diatribe of love against a seated man".
