Bristol Self-Guided City Walking Tour & Scavenger Hunt

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Bristol tore down a statue, left the plinth empty on purpose, and has a Banksy above a sexual health clinic — it's that kind of city.

This app-led scavenger hunt takes you through central Bristol on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

• Follow clues to Bristol Old Vic, the Empty Colston Plinth, and Banksy's Well Hung Lover — three landmarks that make the city's complicated, creative history impossible to ignore
• Start whenever suits you and take all the time you need — no time limit, no pressure
• Perfect for friend groups and curious travellers; photo challenges at each stop tend to spark good conversations

Around 2 hours, any group size, available in English.

Bristol has never been short of things to say — your phone has the first word.

What to expect

Starting at Deanery Road in central Bristol, enter your 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message into the free Explorial app and begin a self-guided trail through a city where history and controversy sit side by side.

Bristol Old Vic — founded in 1766 and the oldest continuously running theatre in Britain — stands at the heart of the cultural quarter; challenges here explore the theatre's history, its Georgian auditorium, and the celebrated names that have performed on its stage.

At the Empty Colston Plinth on the harbourside, where a statue of slave trader Edward Colston stood until protesters toppled it into the harbour in 2020, riddles probe the debate about whose history cities choose to celebrate.

Banksy's Well Hung Lover — a stencil of a man hanging from a window ledge above a sexual health clinic — invites challenges about the artist's Bristol origins and the guerrilla method behind the image.

The trail takes around two hours at your own pace, with no guide and no fixed schedule.
