What to expect

Starting at Viale Rinaldo Franci 7, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and wind into Siena's medieval lanes. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

The Battistero di San Giovanni comes first, its font touched by Donatello and Ghiberti. Riddles reward those who look closely at the marble.

Then the streets tilt and open onto Piazza del Campo — the shell-shaped square where the Palio horse race erupts twice each summer. Trivia covers contrade flags, rivalries and the Torre del Mangia above.

At the Duomo, black-and-white stripes climb toward one of Italy's great facades, and the clues dig into an unfinished dream of the largest church in Christendom.

Allow around two hours of climbs and cobbles. The final ranking declares which contrada — yours — takes the honours.
