This app-led scavenger hunt takes you through Guimarães's UNESCO-listed old town on foot, using phone-based riddles to guide you from one landmark to the next. No guide, no fixed start time.

What to expect
At the Castelo de Guimarães, the hilltop fortress where Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, is said to have been born in 1109, you'll tackle challenges about the castle's role in the founding battles of the Portuguese nation and the towers that have watched over the city for nine centuries.
The trail moves to the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, the elegant medieval church at the spiritual centre of the old town, where riddles explore its Romanesque origins and the legend of the miraculous olive tree in its square.
At the Largo da República do Brasil, the central square of the lower old town, you'll pick up points for reading the square's history and the buildings that frame it.
The trail takes around two hours at a comfortable pace, with no guide and no fixed schedule.
