Kibale National Park is renowned for its remarkable primate diversity, holding the highest concentration of primates in East Africa. With over 1,500 chimpanzees and 13 primate species, the park provides an exceptional chance to observe these animals in their natural forest habitat. Visitors may also encounter striking species such as the black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, red colobus, Uganda mangabey, and blue monkey, all contributing to the forest’s rich and vibrant ecosystem. Chimpanzee trekking is among Uganda’s most rewarding wildlife experiences. Much like gorilla trekking, it leads you deep into the forest as you follow the calls and movements of these intelligent primates weaving through the canopy. Depending on their location, the trek can take several hours, but the journey is filled with anticipation. Upon finding them, you gain the rare opportunity to spend up to an hour observing the chimpanzees—their social bonds, playful behaviour, and striking human-like traits.
