After breakfast at your hotel have a comfortable pick-up to the main port in Puno, relax during a panoramic drive parallel to the resplendent Lake Titicaca. Enjoy a warm welcome from the friendly locals, who will show you around their rustic homes while your knowledgeable guide explains the fascinating history of the islands; Originally built as a defense mechanism, the islands were designed with flexible reeds to move easily during attack. Learn about the logistical issues of rotten reed foundations, then return to the ship for the next leg of your journey.
Disembark on the island of Taquile, a place that has avoided the metropolitan development of the modern world; the women still wear traditional woven clothing and the artisanal treasures are created using ancient methods. Learn about inversions in stereotypical gender roles and enjoy a light lunch inspired by regional recipes.
. After your culturally enriching exploration, return to the boat that will take you to the island called Luquina. Your host family will wait for you at the port of Luquina and they will take you to their home. You will enjoy a delicious dinner with the local family before going to bed. Have the afternoon to watch the sunset.
Start your day fairly early with a tasty breakfast with the family before having the chance to take part in your daily activities, such as herding sheep, working the crops, or even learning how to milk a cow. You will then enjoy a delicious lunch before saying goodbye to the family and leaving the community. You will take the boat back to Puno, finishing the tour around 3:45 p.m.
