Come with us and get to know Caral, which is the oldest manifestation of civilization in Peru and in the American continent due to its 5000 years old. It is made up of 32 monumental buildings, integrated into a complex system of settlements that show a strong religious ideology, among which are ceremonial buildings, residential sectors for people of different social ranks, a set of smaller temples and production workshops. Caral led a system of settlements that brought together 24 similar sites, although smaller, located in the Supe Valley.
It expresses the complexity and development of a model of early sociopolitical and economic organization during the Late Archaic Period (5000-3800 Bc) independently originated by the Andean societies that inhabited this small fertile valley on the Peruvian central coast.

The Sacred City of Caral is located in the Supe valley, province of Barranca, 182 km north of Lima, in the north-central area of Peru. Because of its size and its architectural complexity, this is the most outstanding urban settlement of all that have been identified on the American continent from 3000 to 2000 B.C. Caral extends over 66 hectares, and consists of a nucleus and a peripheral area. The former boasts monumental architectural structures, four kinds of distinctive residential complexes, residences of the elite, two sunken circular plazas and spaces for mass public assemblies. The area in the periphery has many housing units distributed rather like an archipelago, with islands of dwellings grouped the length of the terrace adjacent to the valley.
