Explore Rembrandt’s trail in the Amsterdam Old Town. Your journey back to the 17th century will begin outside the Oude Church. Rembrandt married Saskia and had most of his children baptized at this historic church.
You will learn more about the artist’s personal life as you walk towards the New Market Square. Your Private Guide will point your attention to the Zuiderkerk, a 17th century church that also played an important part in Rembrandt’s life.
One of the main highlights of this tour will be a stop outside Rembrandthuis, the Rembrandt House Museum. As you admire the late-medieval facade of the house where the artist lived for 20 years, the guide will help you understand how modest Rembrandt’s life was at that time.
You will also explore parts of the Jewish Quarter. Although Rembrandt was not Jewish, he became an important figure in the Jewish world, and his painting ‘The Jewish Bride’ was especially praised by Vincent van Gogh. You will pass by the Portugal Synagogue and head to the public square dedicated to Rembrandt to finally see the artist’s monument.
It is the most visited museum in Amsterdam but you will have skip-the-line tickets to avoid the queue. Enjoy live commentary as you explore the massive collection of Dutch, European and Asian art from the 12th to the 20th century. The museum displays Rembrandt’s most famous masterpiece, ‘The Night Watch,’ as well as the ‘Landscape with a Stone Bridge, and many of his self-portraits. See mater's original works!
The museum shows the artist’s living and working quarters, offering an insight into his daily life and studio practice. The collection includes Rembrandt’s personal items, etchings and 17th century art, and the temporary exhibitions host works of art by Rembrandt, his contemporaries and his (contemporary) followers. It’s the best place to learn more about this excellent artist!
