We kick off our adventure in Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes. After settling into your luxurious cabin, we'll head out to explore the East Bank. First up is the magnificent Karnak Temple, a sprawling complex of temples, chapels, and pylons dedicated to the Theban Triad. Prepare to be amazed by its sheer scale and intricate details. Then, we'll visit the elegant Luxor Temple, connected to Karnak by the Avenue of the Sphinxes. As the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the temples, you'll feel the magic of ancient Egypt come alive. We'll return to the ship for a delicious dinner and a relaxing evening.
Today, we cross the Nile to explore the West Bank, the resting place of pharaohs and nobles. We'll start with the Valley of the Kings, where many pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, were buried. You'll have the chance to explore several tombs, marveling at the vibrant hieroglyphics and intricate artwork. Next, we'll visit the stunning Temple of Hatshepsut, a masterpiece of architecture that blends seamlessly into the surrounding cliffs. We'll also see the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues of Amenhotep III. In the afternoon, we'll return to the ship and set sail towards Edfu.
This morning, we'll visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. We'll take a horse-drawn carriage, or "calash," to the temple, adding a touch of local flavor to our journey. After exploring the temple, we'll return to the ship and continue sailing to Kom Ombo. In the afternoon, we'll visit the unique Kom Ombo Temple, dedicated to two gods: Sobek the crocodile god, and Haroeris the falcon god. The temple's symmetrical design and riverside location make it a truly spectacular sight.
Today, we arrive in Aswan, the southernmost city in Upper Egypt. We'll start with a visit to the High Dam, a modern marvel of engineering that controls the flow of the Nile. Next, we'll see the Unfinished Obelisk, which provides insights into ancient Egyptian stonemasonry techniques.
