This tour offers a chance to experience Hokkaido’s culture through a visit to the Ebetsu Brick Factory, registered as a Hokkaido Heritage site, and a hands-on pottery experience at Hokkaido’s oldest kiln.
At the brick factory—one of Japan’s leading producers with over 130 years of history—you can enjoy the beautiful contrast between red bricks and winter snow.
At the historic kiln, you will take part in a hand wheel pottery experience (te-rokuro), guided in a fun and easy-to-understand way by the kiln’s artisans.
Your finished piece will be fired at the kiln and shipped to you, allowing you to relive your journey even after returning home.
Your one-of-a-kind ceramic piece will arrive approximately 3–6 months after the experience
(estimated shipping cost: around JPY 5,000, payable on-site).
The Ebetsu Brick Factory tour is fully reservation-only and not open to the general public.
Pottery works will be shipped after firing, so you can enjoy the memories of your trip once they arrive.
Please let us know the name and address of your hotel.
Please note that hotels in the Jozankei Onsen area are excluded.
The Ebetsu Bricks, registered as a Hokkaido Heritage asset, once accounted for nearly 50% of Japan’s total brick production at their peak. They have been used in the restoration of Sapporo’s Red Brick Government Building as well as in parts of Hokkaido Ballpark F Village. Because the factory does not operate during winter, visitors can enjoy a special seasonal experience. Enjoy a warm and memorable moment that connects you with over 130 years of brick-making history and the unique warmth of winter in Hokkaido.
We will take a lunch break at a commercial facility renovated from a former brick factory.
Enjoy a hands-on pottery experience at Hokkaido’s oldest kiln. Under the friendly guidance of skilled artisans, you will create your own piece from clay using a traditional hand wheel technique (te-rokuro). Even beginners can enjoy this experience with clear and enjoyable instruction. After the workshop, your finished piece will be fired at the kiln and shipped to you, so please pay the shipping fee on-site (estimated shipping cost: around JPY 5,000). Approximately 2–3 months after the experience, you will receive your one-of-a-kind ceramic piece—something truly unique in the world. Spend two enjoyable hours immersed in pottery, surrounded by laughter, craftsmanship, and the warm personality of the kiln artisans.
