Your day begins with an early morning chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest. Although wild, some chimpanzee families are habituated to human presence, allowing for an unforgettable encounter. Guided by an experienced ranger, you will spend about three hours in the forest—one of which is dedicated to observing the chimpanzees once located. A safe 7-meter distance is maintained, with the ranger ensuring both your safety and the animals’ well-being. After lunch, set out once again for an afternoon chimpanzee tracking adventure, accompanied by a skilled ranger. Although this is your second encounter, each experience is unique—no two moments with these fascinating primates are ever the same, ensuring another memorable and rewarding wildlife encounter.
Today’s journey takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the renowned sanctuary of the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Travel via Ishasha, the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may spot the famous tree-climbing lions resting on the branches of giant fig trees—a behavior often seen when the heat rises or after a satisfying hunt. This scenic route is used when gorilla trekking is scheduled in Buhoma, in the park’s northern sector. If trekking is planned in the southern sector instead, an alternative route and accommodation will be arranged to suit the itinerary.
The long-awaited Gorilla trekking day has arrived. After breakfast, attend a briefing by a park ranger on proper conduct during your encounter with these gentle giants. Equipped with sturdy hiking shoes, set off with your ranger to the location where trackers have identified the gorilla family. For added comfort, you may hire a porter at a small fee to carry your daypack. Meeting the gorillas in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience—each person’s reaction is unique, but the magic of the moment is universal. You will spend one awe-inspiring hour with them before returning to relax for the rest of the afternoon.
If you wish, you may opt for an additional Gorilla trekking experience (not included in the package). Alternatively, the day is dedicated to a cultural village walk outside the national park. This immersive tour offers a glimpse into local life—you will meet a traditional healer, observe the process of brewing banana beer, and learn how coffee is harvested. The Batwa pygmies will also share their fascinating heritage, demonstrating aspects of their traditional forest-dwelling lifestyle from the days before they were relocated, providing a unique window into their history and culture.
