1Abu Simbel Temple Complex
The Abu Simbel Temples are one of the most impressive monuments in Egypt. They are located in southern Egypt near the border with Sudan, about 280 kilometers south of Aswan. The temples were built during the reign of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The complex consists of two temples carved directly into the rock mountain. The larger temple is dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to Ramesses II himself. The entrance is famous for its four massive statues of Ramesses II, each about 20 meters tall The smaller temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor and to Queen Nefertari, the beloved wife of Ramesses II. It is one of the few temples in ancient Egypt dedicated to a queen
