The Abu Simbel Temples are one of the most impressive monuments in Egypt. They are located in southern Egypt near the border with Sudan, about 280 kilometers south of Aswan. The temples were built during the reign of the great Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The complex consists of two temples carved directly into the rock mountain.
