We will begin our journey at the closest point to Vienna, a delightful monastery and winery - Klosterneuberg Monastery. We are set to embark on an exciting journey to the oldest abbey in Austria, an extraordinary historical site that has served as the repository for the royal family's treasures for centuries. This heritage-rich abbey continues to house these priceless treasures even today. One of the remarkable artifacts we will get the opportunity to see is a 14th-century ducal hat, a piece of history that provides a fascinating glimpse into the past.
For an half hour we will drive along a picturesque country road in the Danube Valley with beautiful terraced vineyards that descend to the Danube, wooded hills and castle ruins. The castle and medieval village of Dürnstein is linked to the story of the English king Richard the Lionheart, who was captured in these parts and languished as a prisoner in the castle. This captivating destination offers breathtaking views of the Danube River and is home to iconic architectural marvels, including a striking blue and white Baroque church. After visiting this castle you will have unforgettable impressions and pictures!
Our next stop on the tour will be a family-run winery situated in a picturesque location. We'll be tasting local wines, and tourists will have the opportunity to order traditional dishes, which are permitted to be served at wineries.
We will embark on an immersive exploration of a splendid world-famous Baroque abbey Melk, starting with its enchanting inner courtyard. Melk is the gateway to the Danube Valley. Our journey continues as we enter the abbey's church. Once we've fully appreciated the abbey, we will transition into a different epoch, meandering the cobblestone streets of a beautifully preserved medieval town - Melk. This is a journey through time, an opportunity to truly connect with the past and understand the multilayered narratives of this place.
The road back to Vienna will be around 1 hour. We can drop you off at the hotel or at any other place (restaurant, apartments).
