The Gardens of Versailles, designed by André Le Nôtre in the 17th century, are a masterpiece of French formal garden design and a grand expression of royal power under Louis XIV. Spanning over 800 hectares, the gardens feature meticulously ordered paths, geometric flowerbeds, sculpted topiaries, grand fountains, and ornamental lakes. Highlights include the Grand Canal, the Latona and Apollo fountains, and the Orangery.
