The Stockholm Cathedral or Storkyrkan, is considered to be the oldest building in Stockholm, and is also known as the Church of Saint Nicholas, as it is dedicated to Saint Nicholas the patron of sea merchants and sailors.
The Church is located in Gamla Stan, the Old Town on the island of Stadsholmen, where Stockholm was founded in 1252 and it is considered the oldest building in Stockholm going back to the mid 1200s.
This Cathedral, which has been Lutheran Protestant since 1527, is the church of tolerance and reason. Here the witch trials came to an end through the efforts of the priests. People also gathered in Storkyrkan in 1925 for the big ecumenical meeting where church leaders from all over the world were invited by Archbishop to discuss peace issues. The people who have received the Nobel Peace Prize are invited to hold a reflection from the pulpit.

The second is the famous painting Vadersolstavlan or Sun Dog, which is an optical phenomenon that happened in Stockholm on April 20, 1535. This oil painting is considered to be the first "photograph" of Stockholm. This Cathedral, which has been Lutheran Protestant since 1527, has been the official Royal Church for all royal weddings since the Middle Ages.
