Mount Minobu is a quiet, scenic mountain known for its deep spiritual roots and natural beauty, centered around Kuon-ji Temple, the head temple of Nichiren Buddhism. Forested slopes, cedar trees, and peaceful walking paths create a calm atmosphere, while viewpoints near the summit offer wide views of the surrounding mountains—and on clear days, even Mount Fuji. Especially beautiful in autumn, Mount Minobu is a place where history, nature, and reflection come together at an unhurried pace.
Kuon-ji Temple is a historic Buddhist temple set on the wooded slopes of Mount Minobu and serves as the head temple of Nichiren Buddhism. Founded in the 13th century, it is known for its peaceful atmosphere, towering cedar trees, and the long stone staircase that leads visitors through the grounds. Traditional halls, pagodas, and quiet paths invite reflection, while seasonal changes—especially cherry blossoms in spring and colorful leaves in autumn—add to the temple’s calm, timeless beauty.
Kakurinbo offers the opportunity to experience traditional temple life in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Meals include carefully prepared shōjin ryōri (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) made with seasonal ingredients. Guests can take part in activities such sutra copying and wearing a traditional wedding kimono here. Kakurinbo is an incredible place to slow down, enjoy mindful meals, and connect with the culture and spirit of the area.
