Santorini’s Villages, Wine Roads and Hidden Gems -The Grand Hike

5 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

Throughout this hiking adventure, you will escape the crowds, discover hidden corners, and admire Santorini’s volcanic landscape.

The journey begins with a hike from Pyrgos Village to Megalochori, with an optional stroll through Pyrgos’ medieval alleys, a visit to the Kastelli ruins, and panoramic island views.

In Megalochori Village, enjoy a break for coffee, water, and a traditional sweet, or—if preferred—a glass of wine at Arvanitis Winery, next to the Family Bakery. Free time is also offered to wander the village paths, browse local shops, and take photographs of its Cycladic architecture.

The trail continues along the caldera rim, following historic wine paths and offering views from the “heart” of Santorini. You will then cross volcanic dunes toward Eros Beach, with time for a swim if weather permits.

The experience ends at Vlychada Bay with lunch by the sea at a traditional Greek taverna. Finally, you will coordinate your return by transportation with your experience host.

Home to historical mansions, old traditional houses, pirate hideaways and wine canavas, it has a history of merchants and wealthy land barons exporting Vinsanto wine that the island still produces.

    Heart of Santorini

It is a heart-shaped hole in a rock, through which you can see the Aegean Sea, the sky, and the volcano. It is located in Megalochori village, near the charming little chapel of Agios Nikolaos. The spot offers some wonderful views, especially if you are looking for a less crowded place to watch the sunset and capture some Instagram-worthy pictures with your partner at one of the most romantic locations in Santorini!

We continue our hiking following the Megalochori wine roads to Eros Beach. Eros is a wonderful, secluded beach with black sand and sapphire blue sea, on the south part of Santorini. It lies on the coastal area of Vlychada and is actually a continuation of the long Vlychada Beach. The landscape is dominated by the hard white volcanic rock of Santorini in formations reminiscent of a lunar landscape, ending at steep vertical slopes just before the sea. We spend 1 hour for a swim and a drink at the beach bar.

    Vlychada Beach

Vlychada is an easily accessible beach by car or bus, located on the south coast of Santorini, 13 kilometers from Fira. It stands out for the overwhelming carved cliffs that resemble a sculptor's work but is, in fact, a natural process owed to the volcano, the wind and the sea. We will dine and wine at a traditional taverna, Kyra Rini.
