Golden Falls It is a two-tiered waterfall that drops approximately 32 meters into a rugged canyon below. The waterfall is fed by Iceland's second largest glacier, the Langjökull, & its water is a stunning turquoise color due to the suspended sediment in the glacial meltwater. One of the unique features of Gullfoss is that it appears to disappear into the earth as it cascades down the two tiers. This illusion is created by the shape of the canyon & the mist that rises from the waterfall. The sound of the water crashing into the canyon is deafening & the mist that rises from the falls creates a beautiful rainbow on sunny days. It is 10 minute drive from Geysir Geothermal Area there are several things to do and see in the surrounding area. For example, visitors can take a hike along the nearby trails that offer stunning views of the waterfall & the surrounding countryside.
