Colombia's ONLY specialized macaw and parrot rehabilitation center — a working wildlife sanctuary where rescued birds prepare for release. Every visit funds the rehabilitation of 200+ birds currently in care.

Ride on horseback to Cerro El Peligro — the active liberation site where rehabilitated macaws take their first free flight. You may see them flying overhead. No other tour in Colombia offers this.

Encounter the White-headed Capuchin Tamarin (Saguinus oedipus) — critically endangered and endemic to the Colombian Caribbean coast, found nowhere else on Earth.

Help prepare food for the birds, plant a native tree that will feed free-flying macaws for decades, and receive a Rewilding Certificate.

Breakfast made with ingredients from 40 allied farming families who protect 500 acres of tropical dry forest from poachers — conservation and community working together.

What to expect

This isn't a horseback tour. It's the only route in Colombia that ends at an active macaw liberation site — where rescued birds take their first free flight after months of rehabilitation. You ride there on horseback, through 500 acres of tropical dry forest, one hour from Cartagena.

Your journey follows 13 stations along "El Camino a la Libertad": breakfast by the lake, preparing fruit for 200+ birds in rehabilitation, walking through the aviaries, encountering the endemic White-headed Capuchin Tamarin, riding to Cerro El Peligro where macaws fly free, harvesting yuca with local farmers, planting a native tree, and receiving your Rewilding Certificate.

Fundación Loros is Colombia's only specialized psittacine rehabilitation center. Every guest directly funds the release of macaws and parrots back to the wild — 60+ birds freed, 20,000+ trees planted.

Important: Touching or feeding animals directly is not permitted. All activities are supervised by trained foundation staff. This is a working rehabilitation center, not a zoo.
